The start of the new school year

I would like to blog about how Heavenly Father brings you peace and happiness at school.
Well its that time of year again, where school is starting back up. I was pretty excited for this school year to start until I actually got to school, and then it hit me that this year was going to be pretty tough. Junior year is the year that usually gets the most homework. Just hearing people say that, made me discouraged. I thought, there is no way I am going to be able to get though this year! But, as I was reading my scriptures one night, I had this peaceful feeling that this year is going to be okay and that He will be here to help and guide me though the year!
The one wonderful part about school starting, is that I get to go to seminary!! This year in seminary we are learning about the Book of Mormon!! I can't express how excited I am for this year in seminary!! For those that don't know what seminary is, its a class that our church has and for most people, seminary is in the morning. Its a class that helps us strengthen our understanding of the scriptures! I look forward to seminary everyday, even if it is early in the morning! Seminary brings the spirit with you and will stay with you the whole day. The first few days of school, we didn't have seminary and I realized how different it was not going to seminary those mornings! Seminary has made a difference in my life and has helped strengthen my relationship with Heavenly Father.
I would like for just a minute, to talk about the blessings of seminary. Seminary requires you to sacrifice something! For most, its an hour of sleep. But, the blessings that you receive by going to seminary, is worth loosing sleep! Some may think that you are alone in going to seminary, but know that you are not alone! There are tons of people around the world going to seminary! Don't be discouraged feeling that you may be the only one! I can't express how important seminary is and how much it will bless your life if you go! In Matthew 6:33 it says, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." I know that as I have put the the Lord first, he has blessed me by making sure that I feel well rested especially during show choir season and helps me find time to do homework! That's not even close to what I have been blessed with by going to seminary, but those are a few!
I'm hoping that seminary will help make this year go well! I'm excited to see where this year takes me and the things that we have the opportunity to learn in seminary! I would like to bear my testimony that I know that this is the true church! I know that if I go to seminary, he will bless and strengthen me in the gospel and especially in the scriptures! I'm so grateful for my family and all they help me with! I am so grateful for my Heavenly Father and all that he has helped me with! I know that He will always be there and will never be alone!

The Role of a Mother

Sorry it has been so long since I have blogged! Life caught up with me and this is the first time I have had time to blog in a long time. But now that it is summer, I will have lots more time to blog.

So this Summer, my mom is in Africa to go pick up my new little brother! My dad has to work and so this summer, I am watching my siblings. When they first asked me to watch my siblings, I was very nervous because it was like I was going to be there mom for 2 months. I wasn't sure what to expect. As the summer has gone on, we have gotten a lot closer and have learned to work together. I realized this summer how important the role of mothers are and so I decided today that I was going to blog about the importance of what they do.

The role of a mother is an essential part of life. Mothers help you with everything like for example with homework, cleaning, cooking, teaching her children, and so many more things! The way that us youth or children can do for our mothers is show gratitude for what they do, clean up after ourselves, and help her with anything she asks without complaining. Mothers work very hard to help us the best we can.

One of the most important roles of a mother though is to teach her children. Mothers help teach her children how to read, what good manners are, what is right and wrong, and so many more things. My mother best helps us learn of the gospel. The gospel is an essential part of our lives. My mother and father always reads scriptures with us at night and from doing that, I have learned that scripture reading is very important and read them on my own too. The things mothers do will influence the way the child will do and act.

Another important role mothers have is to love her children. The best way you can show love to them is to gives them lots of hugs and kisses, tell them often how much you love them, tell them you are proud of them when they accomplish something, and spend time with them. I never realized how much my mom did this until she was gone and couldn't tell us everyday that she loved us. I know that she does because she has always said she does. I have many siblings and so its a little harder for my mom to spend seperate time with us but I know that she still loves us and will support us in everything we do.

This video I found on lds.org and it was a video that they put out for mothers day. This sums up everything that I have said. I learned all of this this summer and will continue to learn a lot more that mothers do. I am so grateful for my mother and all that she does. She does so much for me and my family and I appreciate everything she does. Mothers help with so much more than I ever thought and I am go grateful for all the mothers out in this world.

To become as He is, We must also do the things He did

So today in church I gave a talk about how becoming as He is, we must also do the things He did. It helped me know what I need to do better and what I can do to be more like Him. I felt inspired to share it with you.

In Hamlet, Shakespeare posed the question “to be or not to be…?  Elder Lynn G. Robbins of the Seventy, said “To be, or not to be” is a very good question. The Savior poses the question in a far more profound way, making it a vital doctrinal question for each of us: “What manner of men and women ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am.(3 Nephi 27:27)” The first-person present tense of the verb be is I Am. He invites us to take upon us His name and His nature.

To become as He is, we must also do the things He did: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and ye know the things that ye must do in my church; for the works which ye have seen me do that shall ye also do(3 Nephi 27:21)”

To be and to do are inseparable. As interdependent doctrines they reinforce and promote each other. Faith inspires one to pray.

One thing the Savior often denounced was doing without being- calling them hypocrites: “This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me (Mark 7:6).” To do without to be is hypocrisy, or feigning to be what one is not- a pretender.

Conversely, to be without to do is void, as in “faith, if hath not works, is dead, being alone (James 2:17)” Be without do really isn’t being-it is self-deception, believing oneself to be good merely because one’s intentions are good.

Do without be-hypocrisy-portrays a false image to others, while be without do portrays false image to oneself.

The Savior chastised the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe”-something they did-“of mint and anise and cumin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith (Matthew 23:23).” Or in other words, they failed to be what they should have been.

While He recognized the importance of do, the Savior identified be as a “weightier matter.” The greater importance of being is illustrated in the following examples:

  •   Entering the waters of baptism is something we do. The be that must precede it is faith in Jesus Christ and a mighty change of heart.

  •   Partaking of the sacrament is something we do. Being worthy to partake of the sacrament is a weightier and much more important matter.

  •   For the young men, ordination to the priesthood is an act, or do. The weightier matter, however, is power in the priesthood, which is based “upon the principle of righteousness (D&C 121:36),” or be.

Many of us create to do list to remind us of things we want to accomplish. But people rarely have to be lists. Why? To do’s are activities or events that can be checked off the list when done. To be, however, is never done. You can’t earn checkmarks with to be’s.

Christlike to be’s cannot be seen, but they are the motivation force behind what we do, which can be seen.

An example of becoming as He is, and doing the things He did is Service. There are so many ways you can serve. In the For Strength of Youth it says you can serve by sharing the gospel with others. You can serve by doing temple and family work. One of the most important services you can give is within your own home.

He loves everyone, He prays for us, and continually serves us. He finds opportunities to express His love.  He knows who we are and who we can become. He invites us to act in faith and live the truths He taught. In all His teachings, He focused on helping His followers love the gospel with all their hearts. He is our example and mentor.

I know that as we love others and pray to Him and serve others and find opportunities to teach the gospel and to try to become as much as we can like Him and go to church and study our scriptures that we are becoming more like Him and we are doing the things He did.

I would like to bear my testimony that we will be blessed if we do all these things. I know that as I study my scriptures that I learn more of what He did for others and what I can do so that I can be like Him. I know that the Savior loves each and every one of us and wants us to return with Him again. This I say in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

5 Things I am grateful for

I am really sorry it has been awhile! Life catches up to you and I have been sick a lot lately. I wanted to blog about 5 of the most things I am grateful for.
 1'st Thing

I am grateful for the opportunity of doing missionary work. Missionary work can come in all different ways. An example is a girl in my Spanish class was talking about how we have a lot of Mormons at our school. My friend overheard and asked me if I was Mormon. I say with a proud yes and she got a little excited to know. She has had questions but didn't really know anyone that was Mormon so she asked  me a bunch of questions. I answered all of them and I feel that I was able to answer them to the fullest because I read and study the scriptures. Elder Jeffery R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve said, "Keep your faith. Look for the good in your situation. Do something kind for someone. Seek Christ devoid of wrapping and tinsel." I know that this is a really important opportunity to help people this time of season. When you serve your fellow beings, you are serving the Lord. Another quote about missionary work that stuck out to me is, "The purpose of our missionary work is to help the children of God fulfill a condition prescribed by our Savior and Redeemer." I know that as we do missionary work, we are helping His children to be able to return with Him in Heaven someday. This past October they made the announcement that young men can serve a full time mission when they are 18 and young women can serve a mission when they are 19. I was excited when I heard that because the young women's age was 21 and the young men's age was 19 and so this will give young men and women a greater opportunity to serve a full time mission. I found this quote (the picture) and it made me really think hard about it. I was sad to think that my older brother and sister were leaving on a full time mission next year but was excited that they get to go and serve the Lord. When I read this, it helped me to think yeah I will miss them when they are gone, but they are teaching people so that they can be with their families for eternity. Even if we are not old enough to go on a full time mission, doesn't mean we can't be missionaries. We are missionaries NOW! I am grateful that I get to help the Lord by doing missionary work.

 2nd Thing
I am grateful for my family. My family is everything to me. I know that they will always be here for me and that we will be together forever.“Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ." When I think of the word family I think of trust, laughter, strength, success, peace, patience, love, miracles, and joy. I am greatful that I have a strong relationship with my family. They always are there for me and I have fun with them all the time. Another quote I really like is, "In family relationships, love is really spelled T-I-M-E." I know that family relationships does take time but it is worth the time. The more you spend with your family, the closer relationship you will have with them now and in the future. I know that my family will always be with me forever.

 3rd Thing

I am grateful for my friends. In the past I have struggled know what true friendship is. An experience I had was that in 6th grade, I had some pretty amazing friends. The school year went so quick and before you know it, it was summer. That summer I hung out with my two best friends. I talked to my other ones on email but didn't really do anything with them. It was about time to start 7th grade and I was super excited to see all my friends. Most of my friends had different classes. The first day of school was terrible. I got there and I would try to talk to my friends but it was like they forgot me because they became friends with the more popular. I struggled and cried for many days. It was one day a girl in my math class was sitting by me and we started talking and be became instant friends. To this day I am still best friends with her and because of her example and helping me, she showed me what true friendship is. This quote goes right along with the experience I just told you. I know that the friends I have today will always be there for me and will let me bring the best of me out. I know that friendship is really important and you shouldn't let someone you call a friend shape your whole life. Know that there will always be someone there for you. Heavenly Father was my best friend and still is. He helps me though trials that I have and the hard times in life.

4th Thing
I am grateful for the scriptures. The scriptures have taught me so many things through life. I know that I have learned to study the scriptures, I have found things that apply and help me though everyday life. I am grateful that this year I had the chance to go to EFY which is a church camp that is very spiritual but fun. I know that while I was there, it showed me the importance of scripture study and ever since then, I have kept a scripture journal. Looking though the scripture journal made me realize what things I needed at that time and that I could just go back to my journal and see what I need to hear. I am especially grateful for the scriptures when I am going through trials. I know that every time I am having a hard time, I rely on the scriptures and my answer is always there. I am grateful for the Book of Mormon. I know that as I read my scriptures, it truly helps me to resist temptation and fight it off. I know that it will help me on the path back to my Heavenly Father.

5th Thing
Last but not least, I am grateful for my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. I know that they help me with everything. I am that I can pray to my Heavenly Father for guidance and He will answer every time weather it is though scriptures or something else someone says. I know that I can always rely on them to be there for me and that they will never leave me alone. I know that as I was struggling with the whole friends thing, that He was my friend and never left me. I know that they are always there for you and will always love you more that you and I will ever know. I know that He knows me better than I will ever know myself. One of my favorite scriptures is Matthew 19:26 which is the picture above. It says,"With God all things ARE POSSIBLE." I know that even though it seems things are not possible that God makes ALL things POSSIBLE!

This year I made a new years resolution to blog 2-3 Times a month. I really want to share the gospel and so this will give me an opportunity. Thanks everyone! I like you had a wonderful Christmas and New Years! I am looking forward to be able to blog more!

Seminary!

Hello! I am so sorry I haven't blogged in a long time!! School started little over a month ago and I have had a lot of homework, but I am going to try to blog every weekend!

So Since school has started up again I want to talk about seminary a little. Seminary is a purpose is to help youth understand and rely on teaching of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. You attend Seminary when you get into High School. This year we are in the New Testament and I have to say I was really really excited for this year of seminary because we learn all about Christ. Seminary has strengthened my life so much! This is my second year of seminary and even though it is early in the morning, it is worth going because I come closer to Christ and by going to seminary, it helps my day at school go so much better!! Something that I really like that our Prophet Thomas S. Monson said was, "As with anything in life, much of what you take from your seminary experience depends on your attitude and your willingness to be taught. May your attitude be one of humility and a desire to learn. Seminary can change lives." I strongly agree with what Thomas S. Monson said. I know for sure it has changed my life.

I want to share some of the scriptures that really touched me so far in Seminary this year. One of the scriptures I like is Matthew 5: 14-16 which says:
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.
15 neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; can it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good words, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.
These scripture touch me every time I read it. It makes me realized my actions and being an example is very important. I know that I need to let my light shine so that others can see it. Something that was mentioned in seminary that I thought was really cool was that even if your light is not getting brighter, the worlds light is getting darker, so your light makes it shine really bright compared to the world. I think it is so true and I know as I go through school, that I try to be the best example that I can be! We were talking about this scripture and they asked how reading your scriptures help you. I thought for a minute and I realized that if we read our scriptures that our light will be brighter and that we will be able to teach people the gospel. I know that it is really important to be an example at school!
Another scripture that really hit me was was in St Mark 5:36 it talks about not to be afraid but to believe. I love that because I know that sometimes I am afraid to share the gospel with others because I feel like they will make fun of me. I have learned through seminary that if we believe and have faith and you read your scriptures and you pray to your Heavenly Father that he will help us to not be afraid. I know that by doing this I have been able to share the gospel with my friends at school.
Another scripture that really helps me get though school is in St John 14:27
14 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
This has really help me through school and through hard times in life. I know that He gives me peace when I really need it. Lately I have been really stressed from having 4-5 hours of homework every night. Lately I have been getting about 5-6 hours of sleep a night because of staying up late for homework then waking up early for seminary. I know that as I go to seminary, that he helps me function through school and be able to stay up to do my homework. I am so grateful for our Savior and all that he helps me with.
I just want to say that seminary will change your life and it helps you feel closer to Heavenly Father. I know that Christ will help us through trials and he will help us through school. I want you to know that your Heavenly Father loves you unconditionally! One scripture that has helped me through everything is D&C 100:12 which talks about that Heavenly Father is with you even unto the end. That scripture helped me through some of the trials I have had recently because it lets me know that Heavenly Father is always there for me and will never leave my side. He will help guide me though life and he will help me get through trials. I know that as I attend seminary this year that I will grow closer to him and will feel his love. I am grateful for my Heavenly Father and I love him so much!!

EFY 2

I am sorry that I haven't posted the rest about EFY yet! I was at girls camp this past week and I now have time to finish blogging about EFY.

July 4, 2012
Day 3
This morning we had another devotional. It was about Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.  It talks about how we are missionaries every day in our families, in our school, in our places of employment. and in our communities. I am trying to be the best missionary I can be. It says regardless of our age, experience, or station in life, we are all missionaries. It talks about how you should pray for our own missionary experiences. I had an experience with this once. I never really had a missionary experience and I was thinking that I was not really a missionary. I prayed to my Heavenly Father to help me to have a missionary experience. That next week I had 5 missionary experiences. It was very special to me to know that I am a missionary and I can do it. Then that night we had games night. Our company had so much fun and we grew so close together. I am grateful for my company. Then we had pizza night with our group! That was so much fun! We all talked about what we have learned at EFY so far and about awesome people we met!

This is my group during our pizza party! I love my group!

This is us right after the pizza party! I love this picture!
That night for devotional we talked about Charity. We talked about how true charity is love in action. Charity is having patience with someone who had let us down. Rather than being judgemental and critical of each other. may we have the pure love of Christ for our fellow travelers in this journey through life. May we recognize that each one if doing his or her best to deal with the challenges which come his or her way, and may we strive to do our best to help out. I know that charity is really important. I know that I struggle to be patient with those that have hurt me or put me down but I know that as I am patient, I feel Heavenly Fathers love for me. I hope you will love one another.

Day 4

Today was very special to me. We all dressed up in our Sunday clothes and I looked at myself and I knew  that I was a Daughter of God and that I was beautiful in His eyes. I never have felt that way about myself before but for some reason it really hit me today. When I saw everyone else in their church clothes it made me realize that they are all so wonderful and we all looked liked missionaries. I was grateful for the opportunity to be able to dress up.So was had a Young Women's activity today. Jesus it waiting for us to be His friend. I know that Jesus is my friend and my brother. A job for us women is to teach your children (or soon to be children) about Jesus. Rather than beginning with a wish list of all the things you want in life, the real question may be what you are not willing to do without. I think that is really important. No woman is a more vibrant instrument in the hands of the Lord than a woman of God who is thrilled to be who she is.

Day 5

Today was a really hard day for me. It finally hit me that today was the last day. I was really sad all day. So today we had our last morningside. We talked about how the Savior isn't our last chance, He is our only chance. This made me think. I know that I need to follow the Lord because He is our ONLY chance. He wants the best for you. There are going to be people in this world that will tell you that you are ugly but we are beautiful. I know that I realized that yesterday. I know that He is there with me and I know that through this that I am a daughter of God. You are too! I really like this quote, "Happiness is the object and design of our existence and will be the end thereof if we pursue the path that leads to it." One who chooses Christ chooses to be changes. Men and women who turn their lives over to God will find out that He can make a lot more out of their lives than we can. I hope everyone knows that God will help you with everything. I know He has helped me with everything that I have needed help with. You can always turn to him in the hardest times.I love my Heavenly Father. That night we had a slideshow of what we have done that whole week. I cried because I realized that this could be the last time I see some of them. These people here helped me to change my life. Then we had our last night devotional and we had it with our whole company. I was crying during then and people helped comfort me.  Then it came that I had to say my goodby's to everyone. I  cried even more because this really was the last time that I could see some of them. I am grateful for my company that I was with. Thanks for all you guys did!

This is one of my Bestest Friends Whitney, and she roomed with me. She helped me with so many things. I am so grateful for her.
This is one of the people I met. Her name is Becki. I was grateful that I got to know her. She is an amazing friend to me! I miss her so much!
This is another person that I met. She was so nice and amazing! I was glad that I got to know her! Thanks for everything!
These were people in my group! They were always happy! I am grateful for them!
This is me on the First day! I was so excited! I am glad that I went!
This is my company. They are the ones that helped change my life. I love them and miss them so much. They are like family to me. I have never been so close in a short amount of time. Thank you for being there for me!
This is amazing person! Her name is Sarah! She always knew how to put a smile on peoples faces!
These are two amazing guys I met! They always talked to me and knew how to make me smile!
I love these 3! They were so nice to me! I miss them so much and I hope to see them again!

EFY (Especially For Youth)

This past week I got the opportunity to go to EFY! I had so much fun and felt the spirit so much! I want to talk about some things that I learned that I want to tell everyone about because I think it could help you!
                                                                     July 2, 2012
                                                                        Day One
Everyone plays a piece and there are melodies in each one of us. Sometimes it doesn't feel like our self can do it or that we are not a big piece in anything but we are a piece and without you, the puzzle won't be all together. I hope you know that you play a piece in my life. Heavenly Father helps piece things together. He will be there for you. There was a challenge they gave us and it was,"Come in contact with someone this week and see them as a highly valued treasure selected by God and then treat them as such." I hope you do the same thing. I did that challenge this past week and it helped me a lot to see who they really are. We are all sons and daughters of God. We are important.
We had a devotional about having faith in Jesus Christ. It says that faith is of action and power. With even your strongest faith, God will not always reward you immediately according to your desires.God lets you struggle for a long time before that answer comes. That causes your faith to increase and your character to grow. You brought your faith when you came to Earth.

I want to show you some of the most AMAZING people I have ever met! The bottom one is our company and a company is 2 or 3 little group that combine together to make a company. I grew so close to them in only 5 days! I miss them all so much!
These are all the girls in our company. Most AMAZING girls ever! I grew so close to all of them. There light shines off of them. They will help you if you are having a bad day. I know that I was struggling with friends and ever since they found out, they always came and gave me a hug and said you are pretty and you are my friend. I don't know if they know how much that meant to me. I would tell you all there names but you wouldn't know what name goes to what face.

These are the AMAZING Boys! I miss them so much too! I want to thank them for talking all to me and becoming my best friends. You helped me so much. You guys didn't know that I had friends problems but you guys just acted so nice to me and I have never felt so loved. I hope you know that they play a big part in my life. They helped me to change my life!
T.his is the picture of our company. They are all like family to me. I know that they know that this gospel is true. They have said it and I can see it. I know that the gospel is true. I loved going to EFY because they are all there for the same reason. They are all there to feel the spirit. It is really nice to know that there is someone else out there that has the same standards and is the same age as me. I am so grateful for them!

These are the most amazing people I have ever met! They helped me change my life! They were a great example to me and I have never felt so loved from anyone besides my family. They helped me to become a better person. I miss them so much already but I know I will see each and everyone on of them again. I also want to thank my little group. You guys are so awesome. When you guys gave devotional, it touched me because you knew it was true and that you are hear to feel the spirit. I am grateful for your examples!

Day Two
The devotional that we had today was about Shine Forth...Thy Light. Be Thou an Example. The scripture for this years theme is in the Book of Mormon in Doctrine and Covenants 115:5 Which Says, "Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard unto all the nations." I really like that scripture. This scripture is a call for us. It is a call to share this light with others.  I know that I try the best I can to be a light unto others and it can sometimes be difficult. I love my Savior!
Some spoke to us about the same thing. It says that your light never faileth. Our gospel light radiates through us to others around us. be a good friend and share you light. By the way you live the gospel, you reflect Heavenly Father's light. We need to look to the Lord to get past temptations. Even though life is hard, the Lord will help us get through it. Just pray to Him. He will help you. I know from experience. it says your example will have a powerful effect for good on earth. I really like what they said here, they said Even if your light doesn't get bigger but the worlds light gets darker then it will seem that your light will be brighter. I really like that and I know that is true. I know that my light may not be as bright but as the world is getting more and more dark, that my light seems bright.
That night we had one of our counselors( leaders) give another devotional. The devotional was on obedience. It says Obedience is the first law of heaven. It is an act of faith. You may sometimes be required  to do things you do not completely understand. As you obey, you increase your faith, knowledge, wisdom, testimony, protection, and freedom. It says that as you keep the commandments that is will make you happier. I know that is true. I know that I have better days at school if I don't break one. I hope that you will be a light and will obey so that Heavenly Father can be with you.
I want to let you know that the Savior lives. He created this whole earth for us. I know that we can be with Him again. I know that I can Arise and Shine forth and be a standard unto other. I know that I can be a missionary and I want people to see my light in me. I know that He will bless you if you obey Him and have Faith. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

I will post the other days later. Thanks!:)
